Year 8 Reading Group

Plucky pupils who like nothing better than to be curled up with a good book in their spare time have joined our reading group in partnership with Accrington Academy and Blessed Trinity. Books to review this term are “The Enemy” by Charlie Higson and “Revolver” by Marcus Sedgewick. Three representatives from St Augustine’s reviewed “Heroes” live on Radio Lancashire on Oct 18th. Producers of the show were so impressed, we have been invited back before Christmas and this will now be a half termly ‘slot’. We shall be meeting with pupils from the partner schools in December at Pam’s Bookends in Great Harwood. Pam has been a great supporter of our reading group and supplies our books. In the meantime, if you would like to see our first thoughts on “Heroes” follow this link. If you would like to try the book, click here to read the blurb and get full details. Want to share your thoughts? Why not e-mail us your review?

Lancashire Library Book of the Year 2011

This year, our Year 9 have been invited to be a part of the judging process for this prestigious award. Previous winners have included Philip Pullman and Brian Jacques. For further details of the competition go to www.lancashire.gov.uk/libraries/services/children/cboty/index. We have been reading and reviewing the first 42 nominations and are looking forward to meeting with our partner school, St Bede’s in Lytham, on 24th November to exchange books and begin reading the next 40 books! We will be compiling our own top ten titles in the New Year, so look out for further details soon.

Year 7 Writing Competition

Open to all Year 7 pupils, the school will be entering its best writers in this year’s Rotary Writing Competition. This year pupils are invited to write “The Letter they most want to write”. This can be to someone famous- alive or dead; a character in fiction or even to a friend. We will be sending our best ten entries to represent the school.
