Year 8 participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities which are on offer both at lunchtime and after school. In addition, Year 8 is represented on the Pupil Council where their voices can be heard and where they can be involved in important decision making.
Year 8 pupils are given the opportunity to accompany their peers to Alton Castle where they can enjoy a spiritual retreat “with a difference” and during most academic years, departments organise other residential trips where children can practise their skills, and enjoy new experiences and cultures.
Our pupils are always involved in fund-raising for a wide variety of charities, but this year ours will be especially for Dogs for the Disabled. Last year, the generosity of pupils and their families and determination to help others has been a credit to them. During Advent and Lent, our pupils help to raise money for CAFOD.
As Head of Year 8, it is my responsibility to lead and manage a team of form tutors who provide pastoral care for our pupils and who take an active role in the tracking of their academic progress. Our role is a diverse one but our priority has always been that of providing a safe environment where our pupils can thrive academically and socially.
At St. Augustine’s we believe that parents need a regular update of their child’s progress. Consequently, your child will receive an interim assessment in December, at Easter and an end of year report in July. There is a Year 8 Parent’s evening on Thursday 17th January 2013 giving parents an opportunity to speak to all their child’s teachers personally. However should you be concerned about your child’s progress or general well-being at any time during the academic year, we are always available to help.

"We want pupils to make an active contribution as they grow in confidence in Year 8"
