Dear Parent/Carer,

As the pupils move into their final year at St Augustine’s I feel privileged to be able to accompany them on the final leg of their journey. As a year group the pupils have shared many positive experiences and have forged many wonderful memories which will be treasured for the rest of their lives. Our aim is to add to those memories and to make the most of the short time we have left.

As always we expect each pupil, regardless of ability to give their very best efforts in all that they do. Whilst hard work, full attendance and a positive attitude are essential there is no reason why, with good time management the pupils should not continue to enjoy a balanced life in which they involve themselves in the school’s extra-curricular activities as well as enjoying a rounded social life outside of school. Good advice would be to get the school work done first and to the best of your ability and then you can enjoy yourself afterwards.

In my role as year leader I would normally be first point of contact if you have any concerns. You can contact me by ringing the school telephone number. If I am not in the office at the time I will reply to any voice mail messages that day.

Experience has taught me that it can sometimes be difficult to keep a track of where your son or daughter is up to in terms of work, revision and forth coming exams. With this in mind I hope the following information, specific to Year 11 will prove helpful.

Careers Advice

This area has its own specific webpage, but in short, our Careers Advisor is Mr Victor Ficorilli. He has already spoken to the year group in an Assembly and pupils will be able to make individual appointments to see him on Mondays and Fridays. As parents you are more than welcome to accompany your children if you wish to do so.

Monitoring and Tracking

This information will be published in October, December and March of Year 11 and along with the Welcome Back Evening, Parents Evening and End of Year Reports it will form the basis of all parental and student feedback.

As in Year Ten, Monitoring Letters will provide clear feedback as to how your child is working in each of subject in terms of behaviour, effort, use of equipment, home learning and course work. A tick will indicate that all is well, a line will show a cause for concern and a cross will indicate a serious cause for concern. A separate progress tracking letter will inform you as to whether your child is meeting, exceeding or failing to meet his or her targets. If you have any concerns regarding this information please do not hesitate to contact myself or individual subject teachers.

Designated Charity

Many thanks go to pupils and parents for supporting Sadie’s Pot of Gold. As you may know this charity was set up in memory of a well-loved former pupil. All money raised goes towards helping young people who have been diagnosed with Cancer. This year in addition to raising £416,49 the pupils of 11 Barlow bought a lovely wooden bench which will be engraved appropriately and will be placed in our alfresco area.

The designated charity in Year 11 will be ‘Nightsafe’, based in Blackburn offering support and refuge to homeless young people.

School Uniform

Thank you for supporting our school uniform policy. The pupils look very smart in their maroon jumpers. All pupils now carry a uniform card in their school diary and this will be signed by a member of staff if the uniform is not being worn properly.  We feel very proud of the way that our pupils dress and conduct themselves and we will continue to work hard to maintain our very high standards. We do have a very tiny minority of girls who still try to wear make-up and we would appreciate your continued support in discouraging them from doing so.
